Description

Desloratadine (Antihistamine)

  • Desloratadine, is a potent, nonsedating H1-receptor antagonist with antiallergic and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Desloratadine is safe and is associated with a statistically significant reduction in nasal and nonnasal symptoms in patients with perennial allergic rhinitis.
  • Was superior to placebo in controlling pruritus & total symptoms after the first dose and maintained this superiority to the end of the study.
  • 5 mg daily is a safe and effective treatment for chronic idiopathic urticarial with significant benefits.

Montelukast (Leukotriene receptor antagonists)

  • Montelukast, a novel medication, is an antagonist to the leukotriene receptor, a viable alternative for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis.
  • Rapidly absorbed achieving peak plasma concentration, well tolerated, and has a safety profile similar in pediatric and adult populations.
  • Has benefits equivalent to antihistamines when used as monotherapy regarding efficacy and quality of life improvement and may be equivalent to intranasal corticosteroids, at least in some patients.

COMBINATION:

  • In the treatment of bronchoconstriction resulting from early asthmatic response to an inhaled allergen the combination of Desloratadine and Montelukast provides superior efficacy to either blocker administered alone.
  • The combination of Desloratadine and Montelukast is effective in the treatment of chronic urticaria. This combination improves the symptoms and patient’s quality of life significantly more than desloratadine alone.
