Drug Class: Osmotic laxative

• Lactulose are non-absorbable disaccharides that stimulate gut motility, and improves symptoms of the bowel by accelerating colonic transit.
• Activate peristalsis movement for the treatment of chronic constipation. 
• Long-term lactulose treatment lowers the prevalence of clinical hepatic encephalopathy by lowering blood ammonia and improving psychometric performance and quality of life.
• Lactulose is not absorbed in the small intestine and is of great significance when treating constipation during pregnancy, as it presents no threat to the fetus.
