Description
Pantoprazole
Drug Class: Proton Pump Inhibitors
- A proton pump inhibitor drug effective for both acute and long-term treatment with excellent control of erosion and ulceration of the esophagus caused by GERD.
- It is well tolerated even for long-term therapy with optimal tolerability and its pharmacokinetics are found to be independent of patient age.
- Shown to have minimal interactions with other drugs because of a lower affinity for cytochrome P450 than older PPIs.
- Produces superior symptomatic remission rates and clinical efficacy compared with an H2 antagonist (like ranitidine).
Levosulpiride
Drug Class: A prokinetic agent of the benzamide class.
- Levosulpiride, a levorotatory enantiomer of sulpiride is an effective antipsychotic and a prokinetic agent.
- Improves overall symptoms of reflux esophagitis rapidly and effectively, by increasing lower esophageal sphincter pressure.
- Shown to increase interdigestive migrating motor complexes in the gastric antrum, promoting the propagation of motor waves from the stomach into the duodenum.
- Gallbladder and gastric emptying time as well as intestinal transit time were shortened.
- Due to its antiemetic property it ameliorated nausea & vomiting in postoperative conditions and during cancer chemotherapy more effectively than metoclopramide.
