Description

• Calcium (carbonate) and cholecalciferol are used in association with ibandronic acid if dietary intake is inadequate to avoid lower levels of calcium in the blood.

• Calcium (carbonate) is essential for a number of physiological functions, particularly for bone mineralization.

• Cholecalciferol undergoes biotransformation into 1,25 dihydroxycholecalciferol, a main active metabolite of vitamin D, i.e. necessary to promote the intestinal absorption of calcium.  

• Ibandronic acid is a bisphosphonate that stops the action of the osteoclasts, the cells that are involved in breaking down bone tissue.
