Cefixime (Cephalosporin antibiotics)

• Cefixime is a broad-spectrum oral antibiotic used for treating a wide variety of bacterial infections.
• The oral suspension of Cefixime is more rapidly and completely absorbed than the tablets.

• Effective for treatment of young children with gastroenteritis caused by Salmonella and Shigella species resistant to traditional antibiotics such as amoxicillin and trimethoprim- sulfamethoxazole.

• Cefixime was better at eradicating Streptococcal pharyngitis reported in children 4-12 years of age and preventing recurrences of group A streptoccus compared with penicillin V.
